I met Steven and Cindy when we worked at aMedia in San Francisco. It was still the wild and wooly days of the Internet boom. I enjoyed the group lunches in SoMa because everyone was so young and hopeful and full of fun. As a baby boomer hired to be the communications director, I felt lucky to be sharing the trip and getting a glimpse at the future in these talented 20-30something techies and journalists. They all impressed me, but Steven always stood out with his dry wit, his Texan background and his strong opinions. And I'll always be grateful he had the patience to school me in the quirks of my new Compaq laptop – not an easy task, since this particular model was legendary for its defects. (I learned that later from a Compaq rep.) I am so sad that the world has lost this amazing spirit. -Jan Andrew |
