From the Fishing Message Boards

"That Guy"
I remember when Cindy first told me about "that Guy" she had been seeing. Seeing, not dating. It was no big deal, she said. It probably wouldn't last, she said. They were like night and day and weren't even the same age (gasp!), she said. Uh-huh, I said. I'd like to see this for myself.

When I finally met Steven, I knew instantly that he and Cindy were something special. His face lit up whenever she was near, and I hadn't seen her so happy and so relaxed since I have known her. The minute I had a chance, I pulled Cindy aside.

"Well?" she asked.
"Okay, Insta-Boyfriend!" I replied.
"Wha?"
"INSTA-BOYFRIEND. You are in trouble, girl! This is the real deal!"

Steven, of course, was more than a boyfriend. From that moment on, the few times I got to spend with Cindy and Steven gave me a glimpse into a deep, complex and deeply caring and loving relationship. It evolved quickly and grew in surprising ways and I only caught the surface. I have learned so much by being their friend.

I feel very lucky to have been able to spend even the briefest time with Steven and get to know him, even just a little. I respected and cared for him, because that was his impact upon you, but most of all, I cared for him because of his love for Cindy. It was never a question at the beginning, and will never be a question. His light will not vanish from the lives he touches.

Thank you, Steven. Thank you.

-Peggy Li
