From the Fishing Message Boards

I guess you could consider me the 3rd Fishing Stooge between Steve, Kyle, and myself.

I'm really not sure where to start. I guess I'll start from the beginning... Steve and I met coincidentally at Fort Point Pier while I was fishing with another friend. Right off the bat, we clicked. It helped that we were both members on the Pierfishing.com Message Board. As we got to know each other better, we started down a rabbit hole of strange, yet amusing similarities. To name a few, we were both Korean, originally from Texas, in the technology industry, laid off, loved to fish, and started picking up fishing again with the spare time we had. Plus we were both the same age. Ironically, we also both had Chinese fiancees who were currently in retail with the economic downturn. As a result we had a lot to talk about while we weren't fighting a big one (we had a lot of time as the fights were rare). I fished with Steve many times and felt that we had a special bond. Although we always didn't always see eye-to-eye on several matters, it was still a pleasure to know and fish with him.

On Saturday, another member from the board had called to tell me that Steve had passed on. At first, I thought it was a cruel joke and refused to believe it. To confirm, I gave Kyle a call and we spoke about it. I was extremely devastated. His passing has affected me hard and I think about him and our time together quite a bit every day.

Steve and I were no means best friends in any book, but we were good friends. We had always talked about all of us going out together. I wish I could have been there to see him one last time. I wish that I could have talked to him one more time.

Amy (my fiancee) and I had moved to Las Vegas last October and I never really got to say good-bye and "Fish On!". I just wanted to offer our condolences and wish you and his family the best. At this point, I am so filled with emotion that I am rambling on and at a loss of words, at the same time.

I know that he is in a better place now with his line in the water going for the BIG one.

Rest in Peace, my brother. I look forward to seeing you again one day. When I get there, it's your turn to show me the hot spots.

-Sean Kim
